Residential ENERGY STAR® Storage Tank Water Heater

New Mexico Gas Company is offering our residential customers a $100 mail-in rebate on the purchase and installation of a qualifying high-efficiency gas water heater. We remain committed to helping you enjoy the benefits of these energy-saving products and lower natural gas bills.

ENERGY STAR®-qualified high-efficiency gas storage water heaters can save you about $30 a year on your natural gas bills over standard models. Over the 13-year lifetime of the water heater, that’s about $360 more in your pocket! Larger families can save even more on their energy bills.

High-efficiency gas storage water heaters have the same technology as standard gas storage water heaters: a glass-lined steel tank is heated by a burner located at the bottom of the tank. But the high-efficiency models have better insulation, heat traps, and more efficient burners, that make them about 7.5% more efficient. To increase efficiency further, some manufacturers add a power vent to accelerate the venting of combustion gases.
