To help our residential customers save money on their natural gas bills, New Mexico Gas Company is offering $10 instant rebates on the purchase of a water heater wrap. Coupons are redeemable at participating retailers.
Installing a water heater wrap is one of the easiest and most cost effective things you can do to lower your water heating costs. A water heater wrap is insulation that is specially designed to wrap around the outside of your water heater tank, like a jacket, to help keep the water in your tank hot. A well-insulated tank will lose less heat, making your water heater more energy efficient. By installing a water heater wrap, which takes about 30 minutes, you can reduce your water heater’s heat loss by 25% to 45% and lower your natural gas bills by about $3 to $5 a month. Our customers will typically see a return on their investment within a year.
Not every water heater needs more insulation, but models manufactured before 2001, with R-values under R-24, can benefit by additional insulation. If you don’t know your water heater’s R-value, simply touch the outside of the tank. If it feels warm to the touch, it needs more insulation and you can save money with a water heater wrap.
