Compressed Natural Gas

To promote the use of cleaner fuels for transportation, New Mexico Gas Company has installed a Compressed Natural Gas refueling station at the Metro Service Center in Albuquerque.

The facility supplies fuel for new CNG-capable service vehicles used by NMGC field employees. It’s designed like a conventional gasoline fuel pump – the employees pull up, connect a hose and refuel. NMGC has purchased CNG-fueled vehicles for its fleet that will use the new station.

There are two kinds of pumps at the Albuquerque facility. The fast-fill pump refills a CNG tank in about five minutes, while a slow-fill station allows an overnight refill.

We are monitoring this initiative and measuring potential interest from customers in accessing CNG refueling. Based on those results, NMGC may establish additional refueling stations around the state.
