Rio Bravo Pipeline Relocation Project FAQ
The New Mexico Department of Transportation is making roadway improvements along Rio Bravo Boulevard SW between I-25 and Isleta Road in Albuquerque. To maintain uninterrupted natural gas service, New Mexico Gas Company began work in July to relocate our pipeline that serves the area.
1. Why does the pipeline need to be moved?
Before NMDOT can work on replacing the bridge across the Rio Grande and making other roadway improvements, we need to relocate a 16-inch natural gas pipeline because it is connected to the bridge. To do that, we are boring under the river to install a new pipeline.
2. Will natural gas service to customers be interrupted?
No, there will be no interruption of service.
3. The project is underway. How long will it take to complete?
We started in late July and planned to finish in October. However, the project ran into an issue with a boring contractor and their equipment, and this will extend the completion date to January.
We regret the additional time this work is taking due to the equipment failure. We apologize for the inconvenience related to the delayed pipeline installation.
4. Where can I go with additional questions?
For the New Mexico Gas Company project, please send an email to Neighbors@nmgco.com and we'll get back with a response as soon as possible.
